Once your account is verified, you can download the Simul Enterprise installer from the downloads page.
Before downloading, please make sure you have reviewed the minimum requirements for Simul Documents.
Running the installer will install the Simul Enterprise management application and create a desktop and start menu shortcut. The management application will complete the installation and allow you to configure Simul for your environment.
Upon opening the management application, Simul will check for the required prerequisites and prompt you to install them. The following components will be installed on the host operating system:
Clicking "Install Docker" will install the above.
Once complete, both Docker and Windows Containers require the server to be restarted.
Once restarted, open the Simul Enterprise application again. You will be prompted to "Install Simul".
Simul Documents is installed as a set of 6 isolated containers. This allows us to replicate our cloud environment and ensure Simul is sufficiently isolated from your organization’s network.
During installation, Simul will download the latest Windows Server Core image from Microsoft and create the following containers:
Due to the large filesizes of Windows Container Images, the installation process can take up to an hour.
Once complete, the Simul Enterprise application will show a status page similar to the following:
If the installation is successful, you will see a "Simul is running" message and a hyperlink to access Simul Documents.
Simul will respond to any host name which correctly resolves to the external IP address of the server (127.0.0.1 and localhost are not bound).
Simul will accept user registrations but Word documents cannot be uploaded or edited until a licence file from your dashboard is uploaded. You can find details on activated a licence here.
Updating Simul's configuration such as authentication providers or storage locations will require a brief outage (around 1 minute) while the containers are restarted.
It is recommended you apply all your configuration settings before inviting users to use the product.
You can find specific configuration guides here:
Simul Documents will distribute patches from Microsoft to the base container operating system and updates to Simul itself as frequently as possible.
System administrators will then need to accept the updates via the management application. You can find more information on how updates are distributed here.
